Lance Stephenson’s Stat Line Lacking Vs Spurs
With injuries mounting around the Charlotte Hornets roster, there is no bigger time for Lance Stephenson to show some production. Last night he was given a big stage to do it on. The San Antonio Spurs were in town, the model for what small market franchises dream to become. There would be big matchups with Manu Ginobli and maybe Tony Parker.
And Lance fizzled. He produced next to nothing on team lacking one of its biggest offensive options. The stat line says it all in what was otherwise a pretty good performance from the Hornets in the 95-86 loss. In twenty minutes of game action, Stephenson missed all five shots that he took. He produced four turnovers to match his four assists. He was -19 in the +/-. In short, he was a burden to a team trying to find its way.

Al Jefferson’s return to the starting lineup yielded seventeen points and sixteen rebounds. Cody Zeller joined Al with thirteen rebounds. There were heavy minutes were the starting five. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist managed to put fourteen points on the board in twenty-five minutes of action as the lone starter who played less than thirty four minutes.
Stephenson’s other issue was not being quite ball handler the team needed to support point guard Brian Roberts. Roberts was the only point guard available to the Hornets, and the offense fell apart when he was not in the game.

San Antonio continued its dominance over the Charlotte Hornets, being 18-2 against the franchise in its Bobcats/Hornets incarnation. That includes the season sweep for this year. Former North Carolina Tar Heel Danny Green scored sixteen.
The Hornets were not likely to beat the Spurs without Kemba Walker. Their quest for the playoffs continues on the road at Denver on Saturday. Maybe we will hear some more trade rumors before then.
