Charlotte Hornets show effort, still fall to Spurs 98-93
The Charlotte Hornets lost to the San Antonio Spurs last night 98-93. That was not much of a surprise if you consider that the Spurs have won the last eight matchups between the two teams. This game featured a lot of style points and story lines all its own.
Charlotte Hornets Storylines
This was the first game in this amazing stretch where Kemba Walker went for almost thirty and lost.
This was the game where the Hornets went 66% from the foul line, leaving plenty of points to overtake the winning margin of the San Antonio Spurs.

This was the game that saw the return of Lance Stephenson. Eighteen minutes later, Stephenson had contributed eight points and two assists.
This was the game where Bismack Biyombo showed just what he could do. He scored twelve points and collected fifteen rebounds. He also had five blocked shots. This is probably the peak of a Biyombo effort. He just does not have the offensive game to do more.
The Flop of Flops
Yet the thing that was lighting up the internet this morning was PJ Hairston’s exaggerated flop attempt that sent Hairston from the foul line area all the way to the Spurs bench where it appeared that a concerned Spurs coach Gregg Popovich tried to figure out if he was okay. The impetus of the play was slight contact between Tony Parker and Hairston off of a switch.
The very beginning of the play saw an ineffective flop by Hairston’s man Danny Green to try to draw a foul. Hairston’s flop only served to let Green back into the play where he sank a three point shot. It was not a game deciding play, but note the Hornets lost by five. Any points might have changed the outcome.
According to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, Coach Steve Clifford was pleased by Hairston’s effort at both ends of the court. That could spell more time for the rookie who scored eleven points despite his tumble.
