Kemba Walker leads Hornets over old Hornets 98-94
The Charlotte Hornets won an important symbolic victory in the perhaps the most important game that Al Jefferson was not going to play in. The Hornets defeated the New Orleans Pelicans to split the season series and to give the hometown fans a victory over the team that used to call itself the Hornets.
Kemba Walker was again the key piece for the Hornets, scoring thirty or more points in his second straight game. Since the absence of Jefferson, Lance Stephenson, and others, Walker has carried the Hornets on his back. This should not really surprise us that much since carrying UConn was something Walker did in college. He had thirty-one points and four rebounds.

Walker’s biggest play was a driving jumper at the end of the fourth where he was fouled. He made the foul shot for a two point lead over the Pelicans and then Marvin Williams sealed the game from the foul line.
The Hornets were quiet from the three point line, which is either a sign that the Pelicons were denying those opportunities or the Hornets were taking good shot discipline. This result is more surprising given that Pelicons forward Anthony Davis lurks down low to block two pointers. Davis did have four blocks on the night.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist dropped 13 points with 12 rebounds. Gerald Henderson had sixteen points. Brian Roberts had ten as the other Hornet who reached double figures.
The Pelicans got double figures from everyone but Omer Asik in their starting five with Davis scoring 32.
The Hornets (13-24) play the Toronto Raptors tonight in Toronto. That will be a big test for the team because it’s the second game of a back-to-back and therefore ripe for a letdown. Still it would be nice to see the Hornets expand their current two game winning streak.
