Robinson has college aged kids now: a function of time. That is nothing new, particularly if you have been watching Notre Dame football all season. That would have introduced you to Corey Robinson, one of those kids. NBC took every opportunity to show Robinson’s smiling face in the Notre Dame crowd, even during the Navy game. The 6’5” 215 wideout had over five hundred receiving yards and five touchdowns this year for the Irish.
David Robinson – Coach K Connection
So why Duke? Perhaps it has something to do with David Robinson’s last NCAA tournament run, way back in 1986, when Navy got all the way to the Elite Eight before falling to the first really good Duke team of the Mike Krzyzewski in that round. Krzyzewski, a one time coach and player at Army, was fully impressed by a Navy team that could achieve so much success. Despite the unusual nature of the winning coach coming to congratulate the losers, Coach K did it anyway. Maybe that had an impact on Robinson.
Or maybe that impact was gained when Robinson was a member of 1992 Dream Team, where Coach K was an assistant.
Betting on Genetics?
Justin Robinson, the guy who will actually be on the court, showed his happiness to be at an institution as academically prestigious at Duke. Robinson is only 6’7” in height, which does not make him the 7’1” giant that his father was. Or does it? The elder Robinson was not dissimilar in size before showing up at the Naval Academy before growing to 7’0” by his junior season. Could Coach K be making a similar bet here?
This season Duke continues to roll as Jahlil Okafor scored a twenty-twenty game against Elon. Duke next plays the UConn Huskies on Thursday.
