The Louisiana-Monroe War Hawks grabbed the lead with a lone field goal in the third quarter, which held until halfway through the fourth quarter. App State found the lead once again when Marcus Cox ran in it to the end zone from eight yards out. The War Hawks scored once more to make the game 29-28 after a failed two point conversion.
With a little under two minutes to play, the Mountaineers needed a field goal to win it. With thirty-two seconds left they got it. Kicker Bentlee Crichter hit the game-winning kick from thirty-nine yards away.
This game was billed as the unstoppable force (App State offense) against the immovable object (Louisiana-Monroe defense) and played out in the expected back and forth fashion.
Quarterback Taylor Lamb went 25 for 35 and 276 yards with two touchdowns. The ESPN3 crew could not stop talking about his intangibles over the course of the game.

Appalachian State now goes on the road for two tough games. This week will find them in Jonesboro, AR to face the Arkansas State Red Wolves and former Tar Heel offensive coordinator Blake Anderson. The week after that they play the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns. Both of those road games will be hard tests, but App State is in a far better position to deal than they were just a few weeks ago.
