The Duke Blue Devils were picked fourth, which is one spot lower than their ranking in the Coaches Poll. They are looking up at Kentucky, Arizona, and Wisconsin. Duke lost two big players in Rodney Hood and Jabari Parker, but the consensus is that Jahlil Oakfor and Tyus Jones can help replace them. They will be aided by growth from Marshall Plumlee and Rasheed Sulaimon.
The North Carolina Tar Heels were picked sixth. North Carolina has a lot of good players, but we’ll have to see who emerges to be great. Marcus Paige is the consensus best player on the current team and he may have to pull his best Kemba Walker impersonation if this Tar Heel team is to reach its highest potential.
Tar Heel alum Larry Brown as his SMU Mustangs at number 22 in the poll. One would have to wonder how high they might have climbed if all of his recruits had stayed with him.
North Carolina State found itself in the others receiving votes section with 14 votes from various writers.
