Week 8 FCS Football Preview

The FCS Football preview hits week 8 and the conference seasons are heating up. A couple of teams are trying to end losing streaks, and a couple of teams are trying to create some. Let’s look at the state of North Carolina in the FCS.

More from Davidson Wildcats

Saturday 10/11

North Carolina Central Eagles (3-3) at Morgan State Bears (3-3)

Time: 1:00 PM

Both teams are coming off big wins in the MEAC. Morgan State handled Florida A&M last week while the Eagles beat the South Carolina State Bulldogs. Both teams will be looking to move above .500 as they jockey for position in the MEAC race.

Elon Phoenix (1-5) vs Stony Brook Sea Wolves (3-4)

Time: 1:30 PM

Elon returns home to play another new Colonial Athletic Association opponent, Stony Brook. Stony Brook has played mostly low scoring affairs. The most points that they have scored is 21, when they lost to William and Mary in overtime. That should give the Phoenix a shot at their second win of the season.

Gardner-Webb Runnin Bulldogs (3-3) at the Virginia Military Institute Keydets (1-6)

Time: 1:30 PM

The Bulldogs are not done with the non-conference yet and they travel to Lexington to face the Keydets. VMI is off of a stomping by Navy, and their only win of the year was against Pioneer League Davidson. The Bulldogs, on the other hand, are fresh off a bye week and looking to continue their momentum.

North Carolina A&T Aggies (5-2) at Delaware State Hornets (2-5)

Time: 2:00 PM

Last week Tarik Cohen picked up the slack for a team missing Kwashaun Quick. This week the Aggies face the Hornets looking for more of the same. Don’t let the Hornets’ record fool you, their two wins are against in-conference foes including an overtime victory over Norfolk State last week.

Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio? This is the new normal. Just accept it, Western Carolina plays Mercer now in the Southern Conference. The Catamounts have beaten Furman and Wofford this year. The Bears lost to Furman, and their record is built mostly on their non-conference opponents. Their lone Southern Conference win was against VMI.

Davidson Wildcats (1-5) at Campbell Camels (3-3)

    Time: 4:00 PM

The Pioneer powers pound purely painful production prodigiously. Ok, we’re trying too hard. Davidson is still looking for its first FCS win and Campbell is looking to continue its run during conference play. Its play anybody approach seems to be paying off against Pioneer League competition.
