Report: Doral Moore Commits to Wake Forest
Wake Forest basketball is in a new phase. That phase I defined by new head coach and former Kansas Jayhawk great Danny Manning. Manning is supposed to come in and revive the Demon Deacon program and return it to where it was under Dave Odom and Skip Prosser. He may have taken his first big step toward doing that. Rivals.com reports that Manning has secured a commitment from Doral Moore of the 2015 recruiting class.

My guess is that Moore, a seven footer playing high school ball in Florida, decided to go with Wake Forest over other offers from Illinois and Kentucky because of Manning. Manning has a unique advantage recruiting big men, he was one. He seems much more credible as a guy who could develop your big man skills than Steve Wojciechowski, who used to be Duke’s big man coach. That is not a knock on Wojciechowski, he just does not look the part of a big man coach.

Manning’s ability to recruit big men should pay off in due time for Wake Forest. As much as college basketball seems to be dominated by guard heavy teams, the true top of the sport is only reached by teams with balanced rosters an effective big men. It is still the proven formula to use.
Moore is raw right now, but he is a top 60 prospect who is assumed to only get better. At his size, he will offer the shot blocking that can be so useful on the college basketball court. He joins the Demon Deacons’ other 2015 commitment, point guard Bryant Crawford. The combination of center and point guard is definitely one way to build a team.
