Week 7 AP Football Poll: ECU #19
The Week 7 AP Football Poll is full of strange ironies and happenings. Both Mississippi teams ended ranked together at number 3 in the country. That seems oddly appropriate. Arizona, unranked last week, is now the #10 team in the country after beating Oregon. Their next door neighbor in the poll, TCU also benefitted from a heck of a rise after beating Oklahoma. There was much more volatility in the AP Poll than the Coaches, which is normal.

The AP also granted Georgia Tech entry into the Poll after their last two victories. The worst sign for the ACC Coastal Division is for Georgia Tech to be in first place. It means that the quality of the Division is not quite where it should be, since the option driven attack of the Yellow Jackets does not really change from year to year.
East Carolina ascended to the #19 spot in this poll as well. That was more a beneficiary of the chaos around them than beating SMU, but it is a better spot to be in. The twenties fluctuate all the time, but the teens should be slightly more stable. Of course this year does not seem to bear that out.
There are no other local teams in the polls or the other teams receiving votes. Don’t expect to see the Heels there any time soon, even if they beat Notre Dame somehow. Duke probably has the best chance to reenter the voters’ consciousness by beating Georgia Tech at home this week.
