Wake Forest Demon Deacons Top Army Black Knights 24-21
The way to play an option team is to not get behind that team, since they will then use the option run to destroy the clock and your chances to win the game. For much of the first half, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons were on schedule. Then Army scored 14 unanswered points to end the half with the lead at 21-14.

Things got uneasy during the third quarter, but freshman quarterback John Wolford managed to lead the team to ten fourth quarter points that got them closer and then won them the game 24-21.
Army had a number of people get carries, though their leading rusher was their quarterback Angel Santiago. Santiago had been relatively quiet in the first games of the season. Larry Dixon had 92 yards, but no other rusher had more than 50 for the Black Knights.
The game also represented the first signs that Wake was ready to turn over its running game to freshman Isaiah Robinson, who had 16 carries and a touchdown. Perhaps Coach Clawson is ready to fully embrace the youth movement to move forward.
Play of the Game
Hard to overlook the 12 yard pass to EJ Scott for what was the winning touchdown. It was nice to see Wolford hit a receiver not named James for a big play. It is also can only help everyone’s confidence that they were able to secure a victory in a comeback situation.

Were You There When…
Army took the lead. Again I cannot stress how dangerous it can feel to let a ball control offense get in front of you if you are not certain of your own capabilities. Wake has been scrounging together points all season, and you never know where they were going to come from.
I Want Him On My Team
John Wolford QB
Give Wolford credit, he played an efficient game (25/35 238 yds) and threw two touchdown passes. Sure he threw an interception, but he brought his team back from a touchdown deficit to win in the fourth quarter. What more do you want?
Final Thoughts
It has been an up and down non-conference season for Wake Forest, and there are still a lot of questions to answer. The road gets steep in a hurry too. Wake goes to Louisville and Florida State in consecutive weeks. There will be more growing pains for sure.
