Appalachian State Mountaineers vs Campbell Camels Preview
It was a tough road to Michigan, but the Appalachian State Mountaineers learned about what they can do, can’t do, and will do in the future. After a hard week in practice, the Mountaineers put those ideas into the arsenal in their first home game. Their opponent for this first home game is the Campbell Camels of the FCS Pioneer League. We are a long way from Ann Arbor, yes.

Venue: Kidd-Brewer Stadium
Last Time: 1931 – Appalachian State Teachers College 20, Campbell Junior College 6
Somehow I don’t think this game will be particularly relevant to tomorrow’s proceedings. However it is always nice to have bragging rights for 83 years, and no one knows when the next one might be.
Opponent: Campbell Camels (0-1)
Just as Appalachian State will be looking for some redemption, so will Campbell. The Camels of Buies Creek lost to the Charlotte 49ers by a 33-9 margin in their first game of the year.

Saturday Blitz
Campbell is a member of the Pioneer League, which is a branch of the FCS that contains teams that do not offer scholarships for football. Their conference opponents include Davidson and Dayton. Campbell is just 17-51 since football returned to the school in 2008.
Campbell is coached by Mike Minter, the former Nebraska and Carolina Panther star safety. He probably would prefer to play a game more like those teams with lots of run in the system. Against Charlotte, a number of players had at least one carry. However when Charlotte pulled away, Campbell was forced to throw to attempt to keep up. That did not happen. Appalachian State should be better than Charlotte, so a repeat is likely on Saturday.
Prediction: 45-10 Mountaineers
ONJ Season Record: 4-0
This is the game where the Mountaineers get to work out the kinks that did not fire against Michigan. As far as they are concerned this is a new season. They will hold the talent advantage, and no one will grind them down this time. Look for big games from Marcus Cox and Terrence Upshaw. This time, when Kameron Bryant comes out of backup Lamb, it will be because the score is too far in the Mountaineers favor.
