Appalachian State Basketball Schedule Released
Appalachian State Sports information has released the entire men’s basketball schedule for 2014-5, which caused me to consider things happening in March 2015 as if that was real close.
App State is playing a challenging schedule in the non-conference. They have scheduled showdowns with Virginia Tech Hokies, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Charlotte 49ers.

So here is the schedule:
11/6 – Lees-McRae (Exhibition)
The presence of only one exhibition game means something that I have typed a lot lately. It means the Mountaineers have a ‘secret scrimmage’ against another D-1 school.
11/19- AT Furman
An old Southern Conference opponent. It’s nice to see some of these guys appear on App State’s current schedule. There is too much Texas-Texas A&M refusals to play each other out there.

11/22- AT Virginia Tech
What will Virginia Tech under Buzz Williams look like? If it is anything like his Marquette teams it will be a grinding physical style.
11/24- Hampton
12/3- AT Jacksonville
12/7- Hofstra
Pearl Harbor Day will find the Mountaineers with a good measuring stick of their progress. Hofstra has been good out of the Colonial, which is a decent league. Should be able to tell what kind of team App has from this one.

12/15- AT Georgia Tech
Coach Brian Gregory should about have things figured out in Atlanta now. He also should be playing with his own recruits. This will be a tough game for App State.
12/18- AT Charlotte
The 49ers have some senior pieces, like their point guard, but Charlotte is not all figured out just yet. App State could steal one here at Halton Arena.
12/21- AT Alabama
Alabama usually has athleticism all over the court, so App State will have to play careful turnover ball to be in this game with the Tide and coach Anthony Grant.
At this point, there isn’t as much to say, because App State is only in its first year in the Sun Belt and so these teams, other than the Ragin Cajuns of Louisiana- Lafayette, who have been NCAA tournament participants of late. These are all Sun Belt games.
1/3- AT Arkansas State

1/5- UL Lafayette
The Cajuns pushed Creighton in the tournament last year. Their point guard Elfrid Payton was taken 10th in the draft. Expect defensive intensity.
1/8- AT South Alabama
1/10- AT University of Arkansas- Little Rock
UALR is one of two non-football members in the Sun Belt Conference
1/15- Arkansas State
1/17- Georgia State
1/19- AT Troy

1/29- AT Georgia Southern

2/21- AT Georgia State

3/5- Texas State
3/7- UT Arlington
Appalachian State’s schedule ends on a nice four game home stand. The only thing that I don’t like about it is the absence of all the old Southern Conference rivals that were relatively close to App State. No more Davidson or Wofford. This of course is the price App State paid for FBS football.
