Wake Forest Demon Deacons Signing Day Report

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons entered National Signing Day looking to take advantage of the first full recruiting period under Coach Dave Clawson. Coach Clawson did not disappoint. He built a twenty-three man recruiting class that will no doubt be the framework necessary to build future squads.

It is a diverse group that represents ten different states and all of them seem to have leadership experience. Some twenty of the twenty-three signees were high school captains for their various squads according to Wake Forest Athletics.

Wake Forest’s lack of offensive production seemed to control the focus of this recruiting season. Coach Clawson brought in a handful of wide receivers, a pair of running backs, and three offensive linemen recruits. That will hopefully bring the jump start that the offense at Wake Forest needs. One of the receivers was even a high school teammate of quarterback John Wolford.

The Signees:

Archibald Bowman, TE, 6’5” 245 lbs
Dionte Austin, DB, 6’0” 165 lbs
Alex Bachman, WR, 6’0” 175 lbs
Elontae Bateman, DL, 6’2” 275 lbs
Jessie Bates, DB, 6’2” 185 lbs
Tyler Bell, RB, 5’11” 205 lbs

Even with all this hard work, the story of the day was created by Wake Forest assistant Adam Scheier. Scheier took a swipe at North Carolina over Twitter. The two schools play this year and recently set up a series for the future. Scheier’s tweet was ultimately deleted, but not before the damage had been done.

Wake Forest will be looking to build this year and start adding to the win total.
