Training Camp Opened August 1, and Coach Clawson was Very Impressed

Coach Dave Clawson talked to the press after the first day of camp in a video posted to the Wake Forest Athletics Site. He talked about how he builds off of a good base of fundamentals. He was encouraged by the team’s better understanding of his offense’s concepts from the spring. Clawson described the team’s use of hand signals.

Clawson also talked of the quarterback competition and how he will evaluate. He suggested that he does not have a quarterback in mind at the moment. He also said he would not rush that process. He was also impressed with the work ethic of the football team and had done good work on its own since spring.

Senior Nose Tackle Johnny Garcia Injures Knee

The first casualty of Demon Deacons training camp also hit earlier today when nose tackle Johnny Garcia injured his knee. This is the second time that he has torn an ACL with Demon Deacons.

Garcia has been a contributor off the bench the last two years and was looking to fill the void left by three departing starters. Garcia was recruited as a tight end and moved to the defensive line after tearing his ACL as a freshman.
