Former Tar Heels star Theo Pinson, currently with the Texas Legends in the NBA's G League, had a spectacular performance over the weekend as he set a franchise record with 20 assists.
Pinson finished with 11 points and seven rebounds in addition to the 20 assists, helping propel the Legends to a 135-128 win over the Memphis Hustle on Friday.
Check out the incredible highlights below.
Theo Pinson Shatters G League Franchise Record With 20 Assists
Pinson spent four years with North Carolina, winning a championship in 2017. He averaged 10.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game his senior year, showcasing the offensive versatility now on display with the Legends.
In his second season with the Legends, Pinson is making a case to jump to the NBA soon with the Dallas Mavericks. He's averaging over 13 points and 7.5 assists per game, operating as a point forward with an adept understanding of the game.
At just 28-years-old, he's a promising rotational piece that's excelling on the defensive end as well, notching nearly two-and-a-half combined steals and blocks per game on top of his offensive prowess.
Tar Heels fans remember Pinson fondly as a glue guy that makes his teammates better. He's doing exactly that for the Legends now, starting nearly every game and playing over 33 minutes per contest.
Should the Mavericks look to bolster their rotation prior to the playoffs, Pinson is certainly making the case that he deserves a call-up and an opportunity. Given Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving's stellar offensive skills, Pinson is the exact kind of complimentary player that could carve out a nice role in the league moving forward.
For now, we've got these sensational highlights to enjoy. You can catch Pinson Wednesday night as the Legends host the Sioux Falls Skyforce - here's hoping he's got another special game in store.
