It’s been tough to watch the Carolina Panthers since they traded Christian McCaffrey near the end of the 2022 season.

But even though the Panthers are rebuilding, there are a few key players who could help make it a quicker turnaround than you might expect.

At the same time, though, if those players have bad seasons it could only delay Carolina’s return to being competitive.

Here are five Panthers players who could have boom or bust seasons this fall:

1. Bryce Young, QB

This one is the most obvious one of them all.

Young is supposed to be the face of the franchise going forward (or at least a no-doubt QB1), but he hasn’t lived up to being the No. 1 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.

He completed less than 60% of his passes (59.8%) last season for less than 3,000 yards and an abysmal 11 TD to 10 INT ratio.

And it’s not as if he made up for it with his legs, either. Young rushed for just 253 yards and no touchdowns with two lost fumbles.

The offense is significantly better with Jonathan Brooks and Rashaad Penny added to the backfield, Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette added to the WR room and Robert Hunt now on the offensive line.

If Young doesn’t take a big step forward this season, it might mean the Panthers will have to start looking for a new QB1 – setting their rebuild back in a big way.
