The Carolina Panthers are kicking off their 2024 NFL season on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Coming off a 2-15 season, the Panthers are desperately trying to take a significant step forward. However, more important than their record will be Bryce Young's play.

Young struggled in his rookie season, mostly due to the dysfunctional offensive ecosystem. The lack of offensive weapons and the porous offensive line didn't create the ideal scenario for the No. 1 overall pick. The Panthers addressed these areas in the offseason and hope to give their franchise quarterback a more optimal situation.

These changes included revamping the quarterback room. The Panthers are going into the season with Andy Dalton as the QB2 once again but added two more signal-callers into the mix. In addition to undrafted free agent Jack Plummer, the Panthers just signed former Rams quarterback John Wolford to the practice squad.

NFL News: Panthers Sign QB John Wolford To Practice Squad

Wolford went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft after four seasons at Wake Forest. He made his NFL debut with the Rams in 2020, becoming the first WB ever to pass for 200+ yards and rush for 50+ yards in an NFL debut. He also started in the wild card playoff game that season. He spent two more seasons in Los Angeles as Matthew Stafford's backup, winning a Super Bowl in the process.

In the 2023 offseason, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where Panthers head coach Dave Canales was the offensive coordinator. He didn't make an appearance for the Bucs last year but Canales clearly wanted to see him back on his team.

Wolford will wait for an opportunity to be elevated to the active roster in case of an emergency. He will presumably be in competition with Plummer for the QB3 spot throughout the season.
