Panthers Lose Another Starter to Season-Ending Injury
By Jovan Alford
The injuries continue to roll in for the Carolina Panthers. To start the regular season, Carolina lost defensive lineman Derrick Brown to a season-ending knee injury. Then in Week 4, veteran linebacker Shaq Thompson suffered a torn Achilles, ending his 2024 season.
After losing those two guys through the first four games of the season, the Panthers hoped that the injuries would slow down. But sadly that wasn’t the case as now the offensive line is taking a major hit after Sunday’s blowout loss to the Chicago Bears.
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Panthers head coach Dave Canales said on Monday that center Austin Corbett tore his biceps and is out for the rest of the season.
Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer mentioned on Monday that former third-round pick Brady Christensen is the immediate fill-in for Corbett. In addition to Corbett, the Panthers will likely not have right tackle Taylor Moton for Sunday’s game, who is dealing with a triceps injury.
Corbett will miss a significant amount of time for the second time in many seasons. The veteran offensive lineman only played in four games last season after suffering an MCL injury. Corbett also suffered a torn ACL in the final game of the 2022 regular season.
The 29-year-old offensive lineman signed a three-year, $26.25 million contract with the Panthers in 2022. Corbett entered the 2024 season in the last year of his deal and is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
