The Carolina Panthers saw their defense undergo massive changes this offseason, as they traded star pass rusher Brian Burns to the New York Giants and veteran cornerback Donte Jackson to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Panthers also saw veterans Frankie Luvu and Jeremy Chinn head to Washington in free agency. Even though losing Chinn and trading Jackson will be a major loss for Carolina, they have Jaycee Horn ready to step in as the No. 1 cornerback.

However, there are some questions about who will be the team’s No. 2 cornerback. Most fans wanted to see Stephon Gilmore return to Carolina, but that doesn’t seem like it will happen. But the Panthers might have found an answer to their secondary woes with the newest player they will be working out.

Panthers Rumors: Carolina to Host Jerry Jacobs for Visit

On Monday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Panthers plan to host former Detroit Lions cornerback Jerry Jacobs on a visit.

Detroit shockingly did not re-sign the 26-year-old cornerback after having a solid 2023 campaign in the Motor City.

Last season, Jacobs started in 12 out of 15 games. He recorded a career-high 55 total tackles, eight pass deflections, three interceptions, two tackles for loss, and a QB hit.

The 5-foot-11 cornerback also produced a 63.4 completion percentage allowed on targets – the highest in his career and gave up six receiving touchdowns. If Carolina signed Jacobs, it would give them a solid CB2 competition between him and Dane Jackson.

With the NFC South having a bunch of talented wide receivers and solid quarterbacks, Carolina needs to do everything in its power to make sure their secondary is ready to be tested.
