North Carolina Tar Heels star quarterback Drake Maye is one of the wild cards heading into this year’s NFL Draft.

Maye, who is viewed as one of the top-three quarterbacks in this year’s class, could be taken by the Washington Commanders with the No. 2 overall pick, the New England Patriots at No. 3, or another QB-needy team looking to move up the board.

Heading into Thursday night’s NFL Draft, Maye is the overwhelming favorite to be drafted at No. 3 overall (-280 on FanDuel Sportsbook), which the New England Patriots possess. However, the latest draft rumors leading up to tonight’s first round have an NFC squad looking to move up to take the former UNC star.

2024 NFL Draft Rumors: Giants Trying to Trade Up to Draft Drake Maye

On Thursday, Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz reported that the New York Giants are trying to trade up to the No. 3 overall pick with the belief that they want the UNC signal caller. However, Schultz adds, "The prevailing belief is it’s a long shot to happen – but New England is listening to all calls.”

It’s not a surprise to hear that the Giants want to move up, even though they recently signed Daniel Jones to a massive four-year contract extension last offseason. However, there’s a belief that New York would be better off using their first-round pick on a receiver to help out Jones.

The latest betting odds have the Giants using their first pick on a wideout (-225 on DraftKings Sportsbook), but quarterback isn’t far behind (+175). New York GM Joe Schoen doesn't have to show any loyalty to Jones in this spot as he didn’t draft him.

At No. 6 overall, Schoen has a shot to entertain the idea of moving up to get Maye, who had a solid final two seasons at UNC. Maye has an electrifying arm and the dual-threat skills that New York could covet and want to develop, instead of pinning their hopes on Jones.
