Key Panthers Playmaker Returns to Practice After Concerning Injury
By Jovan Alford
The Carolina Panthers received great news Monday as they prepare for their second preseason game against the New York Jets this weekend.
Joe Person of The Athletic reported that rookie wide receiver Xavier Legette returned to practice after missing several days with a foot injury. Legette suffered the injury earlier this month and underwent an MRI that didn’t show a fracture in his foot.
Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters that Legette's foot injury wasn't related to his previous injury he was dealing with in OTAs.
Panthers News: WR Xavier Legette Returns to Practice
The rookie wideout has been hampered by injuries to start his career after missing OTAs with a hamstring.
However, with his return to practice on Monday, the Panthers hope the injuries are behind the rookie wideout as he’ll play a huge part in the offense this season.
Carolina made it a point of emphasis to revamp their wide receiver unit in the offseason to give Bryce Young more help.
Before the 2024 NFL Draft, the Panthers acquired Diontae Johnson from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for veteran cornerback Donte Jackson. Then in the draft, Carolina traded up to the No. 32 overall pick to take the former South Carolina standout.
Legette was reportedly working with the second-team offense before going down with his latest injury. However, if the rookie can stay healthy and get on the field for the preseason, it’s only a matter of time until he’s running with the first-team offense.
A wide receiver trio of Diontae Johnson, Adam Thielen, and Legette is a vast improvement from what the Panthers had last season.
