Jared McCain Reportedly Reveals Decision on NBA Future
By Joe Summers
The Duke Blue Devils received a massive piece of news on Friday morning, as star freshman guard Jared McCain will reportedly enter the NBA Draft.
McCain, who averaged 14.3 points per game on over 41% shooting from beyond the arc, is projected to be a first-round draft pick with the potential to be a lottery selection.
It's possible that McCain is just testing the waters, but it appears he intends to become a professional instead of staying at Duke.
Duke News: Jared McCain Enters NBA Draft
While Kyle Filipowski draws the headlines, McCain was the Blue Devils' best player in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. He averaged 21 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting a flaming-hot 50% from three-point range and 94.7% from the charity stripe.
Given the poor draft class, it makes sense for McCain to take advantage of the relatively weak competition and enter the NBA Draft.
It certainly seems like McCain is moving on regardless of the feedback he receives from the league. He joins Tyrese Proctor and likely Kyle Filipowski as players who are entering the professional level.
The Blue Devils fell short to NC State and will undergo a big rebuilding effort, though No. 1 overall recruit Cooper Flagg provides optimism for the fanbase.
McCain will be remembered as one of the era's best shooters, but it hurts to see him go either way.
