Incoming Tar Heels Freshman Planning Tribute to NFL Star Dad

Incoming North Carolina Tar Heels women's volleyball freshman Jackie Taylor, whose father Sean was an NFL star before his tragic death in 2007, will wear No. 21 as a Tar Heel in his honor.

UNC went 13-14 in 2023 though welcomes an exciting freshman class that hopes to improve on that mark. Jackie is a multi-sport athlete, having been a track and field star on top of her volleyball achievements.

Sean starred at the University of Miami before becoming one of the NFL's best defenders. Jackie was only one year old at the time of her father's passing though now will carry on his athletic legacy.

Named Second-Team All-County in Florida, Jackie and the Tar Heels aim to return the program to recent heights, since as a 21-9 finish in 2021.

The jersey number is a beautiful tribute to a beloved football player and Jackie is sure to gain some fans along the way as well.

A scouting report for Jackie notes she "is an extremely competitive, explosive and powerful 2024 MB/RS from Miami, Florida that has huge upside potential and high ceiling. Jackie Taylor is one of the top 2024 volleyball players in Florida playing for Miami Hype. A good size athlete at 6'1" with an approach touch over 10'3, she has lateral quickness, a live arm and a natural athletic ability."

Her high character and "relentless work ethic" are sure to help her as she begins her college career this fall.
