The Charlotte Hornets used this offseason to continue their rebuild, improve the roster, and set themselves up for the future. They drafted Tidjane Salaun with the sixth-overall pick, moved on from Davis Bertans, acquired Josh Green from Dallas, re-signed Miles Bridges, and brought in veteran big man Taj Gibson.

One of the obvious priorities for the Hornets front office is to surround their young core with respected veterans. Taj Gibson was the perfect mentor for that role. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported on Monday night that the Hornets are bringing back Seth Curry as well, presumably in a similar mentorship role.

NBA News: Hornets Sign Seth Curry

Born in Charlotte in 1990 when his father Dell was playing for the Hornets, Seth is familiar with the city and the organization. He spent the last two months of last season with the Hornets after being traded at the deadline as part of the PJ Washington trade. After the season, he was waived by the Hornets for financial reasons, only to be brought back now on a one-year deal.

On the court, Curry can still contribute in limited minutes. A career 43% three-point shooter, the veteran guard is still a dangerous off-ball threat. He can space the floor for the younger players who will benefit from the gravity Curry provides.

Curry's more important contributions, however, may be off the court. The Hornets have struggled with effort and discipline at times over the last couple of years. The core of this team is simply too young, inexperienced, and full of players who have never won it in the NBA. With his locker room presence and veteran competence, Curry could lead by example. After back-to-back seasons with less than 30 wins, that will be extremely valuable for the Hornets.
