Former Duke Standout Makes USA Basketball AmeriCup Roster
By Jovan Alford
Former Duke star Matthew Hurt will get another chance to play on the international stage later this month for Team USA.
Hurt was among the many NBA G League players selected earlier this week to be on Team USA Men’s Basketball AmeriCup qualifying team. The 23-year-old forward for the Memphis Hustle is having an outstanding 2023-24 season in the G League.
Hurt is averaging 24.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 33.7 minutes per game during the regular season (13 games). For his outstanding play, the former Blue Devil standout received a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies on Jan. 29.
As previously mentioned, this isn’t Hurt’s first time playing for Team USA. The 6-foot-9 forward was a part of the 2023 3x3 Men’s U23 World Cup Team that won the gold medal. Before that, Hurt won a gold medal at the 2018 FIBA Men’s U18 World Cup and played in the 2019 Nike Hoop Summit.
Blue Devils fans can watch Hurt and the rest of Team USA in Orlando, Florida, on Feb. 22 at 5:10 p.m. ET when they take on Cuba. After that, Team USA will travel to Havana, Cuba, to wrap up the February qualifying window on Feb. 25.
