FanDuel vs DraftKings in North Carolina: Which Sportsbook is Better?

facebooktwitterreddit

Sports betting is coming to North Carolina and the two biggest sportsbooks are spearheading the charge.

FanDuel and DraftKings, known as the two most popular sportsbooks in America, are licensed to operate in the Tar Heel state and are expected to establish themselves as the industry leaders from the outset.

Now the question becomes, which sportsbook should North Carolinians use?

Below we'll break down everything you need to know about the two sportsbooks and how to best utilize them as you begin your sports betting career.

When considering which sportsbook to sign up with, you want to first consider the promos they're offering. Good news is, they both have amazing offers in North Carolina.

FanDuel North Carolina Promo

FanDuel is offering new users a $100 bonus bet credit for signing up early and $200 in bonus bets when sports betting goes legal. Here's how to claim your full $300.

  1. Sign up for FanDuel using this link by Sunday March 10
  2. Deposit $10 into your account
  3. Wager $5 when sports betting goes legal on March 11

If you follow those steps and sign up in time, you'll get $100 in bonus bets just for signing up. Then, you get an extra $200 in bonus bets after you make your first $5 bet.

Just make sure to use those bonus bets within the first seven days of them being issued otherwise they will be removed from your account.

DraftKings North Carolina Promo

DraftKings is actually one-upping FanDuel with their new-user bonus, offering $100 in bonus bets for preregistering and another $250 in bonus bets for making your first bet when sports betting goes legal. That means you can get up to $350 from DK to kickstart your betting journey. Here's how.

  1. Click this link and sign up for DraftKings by Sunday, March 10
  2. Deposit $10 or more into your account
  3. Wager $5 or more on any bet you want when sports betting goes legal on Monday, March 11

If you follow those steps, you will get the full $350 in bonus bets. If you don't sign up before sports betting goes legal, you will only get the $250 in bonus bets. So you want to take advantage ASAP.

Same as FanDuel, just make sure to use them within seven days of them being issued.

When is FanDuel coming to North Carolina?

While you can legally bet on sports until March 11, you can sign up for FanDuel now and preregister for your account. You can also deposit money into your account.

Sports betting is scheduled to be legalized in North Carolina on Monday, March 11 starting at noon. That is subject to change.

When is DraftKings coming to North Carolina?

Everything I mentioned about FanDuel above holds true for DraftKings. You can sign up for DraftKings now and deposit into your account, but you have to wait until betting is officially legal on Monday starting at noon.

FanDuel or DraftKings?

Now for the question you've been wondering, which sportsbook is better.

I've been using both for over five years (live in New Jersey so signed up when it went legal there years ago) and have learned a few things about the two books.

First, and this might sound cheesy, but the reality is you want to download both. The reason is you should always compare odds on multiple sportsbooks before making a bet. Here's why.

If you want to bet $10 on, say, an NFL team to win the Super Bowl, one book might have that team's odds listed at +500 and another might have +550. In this case, you want to bet on the book that has +550 odds because you'd win $55 on on that book if your bet wins versus only $50 on the other book if you win.

Second, as I said above, you get more bonus bets if you sign up for both. And these sportsbooks lower those welcome bonuses pretty quickly after state launches so you'll never get better offers than this.

As for usability, these are the two best sportsbook for a reason. They both have intuitive interfaces that make it easy to find what bet you want to make and then make it. They both have easy deposit and payout systems and they're both safe to use.

Personally, I like FanDuel a bit more. It's a personal preference really, as it was the first book I downloaded and I grew accustomed to it. At the same time, I use DK just as regularly. It just comes down to which book offers better odds on the bet I want to make.

So there you have it. FanDuel gets a slight edge over DraftKings from my perspective, but I have both and they're both outstanding.

Odds and offers refresh periodically and are subject to change.
