Failed former Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer has officially found a new home, joining the rebuilding Washington Commanders as a personnel executive in the front office.

Fitterer served as Carolina's general manager from 2021-2023, fired this offseason in favor of Dan Morgan after a pitiful 2-15 finish. The Panthers went 14-37 during Fitterer's tenure, though blame doesn't lay solely at his feet.

He spent 2001-2020 with the Seattle Seahawks before joining Carolina and now hopes to rebuild his image in NFL circles.

The Commanders are in a similar spot to the Panthers. They're both rebuilding franchises with young QBs and talented skill-position players, hoping to return to relevance after a series of underwhelming seasons.

It was obvious Carolina needed to go in a different direction, but there's still a lot to like about Fitterer's experience and football acumen.

After the Panthers made a much-maligned trade to acquire Bryce Young, the writing was on the door for Fitterer and the organization. Young was outshined by second-overall pick C.J. Stroud, then Chicago used the draft capital Carolina traded to snag Caleb Williams, considered a far superior prospect to either Young or Stroud.

Whether that decision was actually Fitterer's fault or due to pressure from owner David Tepper is in question, though either way, it was time for the Panthers to find a new direciton.

Carolina travels to Washington in Week 7 this year, giving Fitterer's new club a chance for retribution against his old. I like the Panthers' chances, espeically after the strong offseason Morgan just showed. Nonetheless, it'll be interesting to see how these two franchises fare in their respective rebuilds.
