Failed Panthers Defender Quickly Signs With AFC Contender Ahead of Week 2
By Jovan Alford
After shockingly getting cut before Week 1 of the 2024 NFL regular season, former Carolina Panthers linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson has landed a new opportunity.
According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, Chaisson is expected to sign with the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders need pass-rushing help after seeing Tyree Wilson and Malcolm Koonce go down with injuries recently.
Chaisson was expected to bolster a Panthers’ pass rusher that traded away star Brian Burns to the New York Giants this offseason. However, the former first-round pick struggled to make an immediate impact this summer in Carolina.
Chaisson made two starts in the preseason and registered one tackle in 29 defensive snaps. It wasn’t what the Panthers expected after signing him to a one-year prove-it deal for $2.5 million in the offseason.
However, the Raiders will hope Chaisson can give them some valuable reps immediately as he hasn’t lived up to the hype coming out of LSU. Since being drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Chaisson has only produced 23 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, and five sacks across 57 games (11 starts).
Last season with the Jaguars, Chaisson had 13 total tackles, 10 quarterback pressures, eight quarterback hits, four tackles for loss, and two sacks.
That said, if the 25-year-old linebacker gets on the field and makes a couple of plays on Sunday, Panthers fans won’t be happy, especially given how Week 1 played out for the defense in New Orleans.
