The Duke Blue Devils are in the midst of a mass exodus as Jon Scheyer lost several key starters and role players ahead of the 2024-25 season. They have arguably the best incoming freshman class in the country but that will likely not be enough to replace all the departed talent.

Only three players; Caleb Foster, Sean Stewart, and Tyrese Proctor, who were part of the rotation last season are returning for next season.

This creates a significant need to add more experienced players from the transfer portal. Like every team in college basketball, Duke is scouring their options in the transfer portal hoping to find more shooting, guard play, and overall depth.

It looks like they may have found someone who could fill their needs. The latest reporting suggests that Duke has been in contact with Koby Brea out of Dayton.

According to Jamie Shaw of On3 Sports, Duke is among several schools that are interested in the sharpshooter who entered the transfer portal a few days ago.

Duke News: Blue Devils Targeting Elite Shooter in the Transfer Portal

Brea is one of the best shooters in the country. In his four seasons at Dayton, he averaged 2 made threes per game on 43.4% from downtown. His combination of shooting volume and efficiency is almost unmatched in college basketball. He went all the way up to 49.8% on 6.1 attempts per game last season.

As a grad transfer, Brea would only have one more year of eligibility. He doesn't project to contribute in other areas if he comes to Duke, but the Blue Devils have enough shot creation and scoring. They would only need Brea to come off screens, provide spacing, and hit open shots.

According to insider Zyavier Ricks on X, Duke is among the finalists to bring in Brea.

Duke clearly has plenty of competition to land the sharpshooter, but even if he goes elsewhere, this shows that the Blue Devils have the right idea for what they need around their star freshmen next season.
