Devontez Walker Receives Interest From Two AFC Teams
By Jovan Alford
North Carolina Tar Heels wide receiver Devontez Walker had a good 2023 season after spending the first two years of his collegiate career at Kent State.
The 6-foot-1 wide receiver posted 41 receptions for 699 yards and seven touchdowns as he was one of Drake Maye’s favorite targets.
After the season ended, Walker participated in the Senior Bowl and put on a show at the NFL combine, running a 4.36 40-yard dash, which caught the attention of teams. Walker continued that momentum at UNC’s pro day last week, which has a couple of teams wanting to schedule top-30 visits ahead of the NFL draft.
2024 NFL Draft Rumors: Devontez Garners Interest From Bills, Jaguars
Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline reported late last week that the former North Carolina wideout has two top-30 visits scheduled with the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars.
With this wide receiver class being deep, Walker will likely slide to Day 2 of the NFL draft, where the Bills have one pick in the second round (No. 60), while the Jaguars have two picks in the second and third rounds (Nos. 48 and 96).
The Jaguars could use a playmaker like Walker as they saw veteran receiver Calvin Ridley sign a massive four-year deal with the Tennessee Titans. Without Ridley, Jacksonville’s WR depth is Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis, Zay Jones, and Parker Washington.
Meanwhile, the Bills don’t have a No. 2 wide receiver with Davis playing for the Jaguars. Buffalo signed Curtis Samuel in free agency to play next to star wideout Stefon Diggs and they have Khalil Shakir.
However, after those three wide receivers, there's room for the Bills to add another explosive wideout, which the 6-foot-1 Walker is. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see where Walker lands as he has a ton of talent to be an instant playmaker in Year 1.
