The Carolina Panthers are entering a wildly interesting Week 3 all of a sudden thanks to Dave Canales' decision to bench 2023 first-overall pick Bryce Young in favor of Andy Dalton.

How Carolina handles Young moving forward is a fascinating question, as it looks like the relationship could be fractured beyond repair. Several interesting teams could trade for Young, but Canales shut down those rumors on Wednesday.

Despite Young's frustration, Canales said that trading him isn't something the organization is considering right now.

Dave Canales Shuts Down Bryce Young Trade Rumors

"That's not something we're really considering," Canales told reporters on Wednesday. Considering Dalton hasn't even started a game yet, it makes sense for the Panthers to see where the chips fall and how he looks before fully moving on from Young.

From a locker room perspective, reports suggest Canales needed to bench Young to avoid frustration from the other players. Young frequently missed open routes from Adam Thielen and Diontae Johnson, and he's got three interceptions and no TDs thus far in his second season.

Everyone watching could see that Young's confidence is low and it's impacted the rest of his game. His footwork was shaky, he airmailed throws, and he generally looked like a far cry from the player who became the No. 1 pick in the draft after a spectacular college career.

Young could still have a bright future in this league, yet it's unclear if there's still space for him in Carolina or if he even wants to be there anymore. The organization itself deserves a bulk of the blame, especially after we've seen how many QBs have left then found success like Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield.

Possible trade packages will keep being floated, and Canales may need to recant his statement depending on how things go over the next few weeks.
