Drake Maye spent the entire college football season considered the clear choice for the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft behind only USC QB Caleb Williams. At the time, we thought the only question was if he'd wind up on the Chicago Bears or Washington Commanders.

However, Jayden Daniels has overtaken Maye for the No. 2 pick, according to the betting markets. The UNC star is favored to go to the New England Patriots with the third overall pick by sportsbooks. He would be expected to take over the mess that Mac Jones left behind.

Betting odds are fluid and frequently change, but this is the first major sign that Maye may not actually be the second player off the board in April.

2024 NFL Draft: Drake Maye Favored to Go No. 3 to Patriots

Maye is currently listed at -135 to be selected with the third pick, presumably sending him to New England barring a trade. Therefore, you would need to bet $13.50 to profit $10, giving him implied odds of 57.45%. Compare that to his +170 odds to be selected second (37.04%) and it's clear sportsbooks are telling us he'll likely be a Patriot as it stands.

The 6'4", 230 dual-threat quarterback has been one of college football's best players over the last two seasons. He completed nearly 65% of his passes in those two years for 7,929 yards with 62 TDs to just 16 interceptions while adding 1,147 yards and 16 more TDs on the ground.

He's got tremendous size, arm strength, and anticipation. His relative slide isn't a negative indication of his performance throughout the draft process by any means, and I'm confident he'll be an effective pro just like he was a Tar Heel.

However, it's interesting that it appears Daniels overtook him in NFL circles with J.J. McCarthy rapidly climbing. These markets can change plenty over the coming weeks, though an NFL team might get lucky and snag Maye at a discount if this trend doesn't change.
