4 Hornets Who Won't Be Back Next Season

The Charlotte Hornets had a season that they would like to forget immediately. These four players will likely not be around for much longer to help get things back on track.

Davis Bertans & Seth Curry

Both of these veterans were included in trade deadline deals for salary-matching purposes. Davis Bertans and his albatross of a contract that is paying him $17 million this year came as part of the Gordon Hayward deal while Seth Curry was part of the package that sent PJ Washington to Dallas in exchange for Grant Williams.

Therefore, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that neither of these veterans are in Charlotte's long-term plans.

Bertans' contract is non-guaranteed after this season. Considering that he is shooting 39.3% from the field as a Hornet while being one of the worst defenders in his position, it is very unlikely that Charlotte will guarantee that contract. He is more of a minimum contract veteran but would make over $16 million if his deal was guaranteed.

Seth Curry, on the other hand, has more guaranteed years on his contract but it's a team-friendly $4 million for next season. He is a respected veteran who the Hornets could choose to keep around as a shooter and floor-spacer. Plus, he is a Charlotte native due to his father Dell's connection to the area, so having a hometown kid around as the older vet in the locker room certainly has its benefits.

But, at this stage of his career, the 33-year-old sharpshooter might prefer to chase a ring. The Hornets have years before they can field a serious playoff contender and Curry will likely have retired by then. Cutting him in the offseason and letting him sign with a playoff team might make the most sense for both sides.
