3 Transfers Duke Should Target To Replace Jeremy Roach

Tyrese Hunter, Texas
Another Big 12 starter entering the transfer portal is Texas Longhorns guard Tyrese Hunter. The six-foot playmaker transferred to Texas two seasons ago after spending his freshman year at Iowa State. He has been one of the most consistent point guards in the conference in his three collegiate seasons, averaging in double figures for three straight years.
Hunter has averaged 10.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in his three seasons in the NCAA. He is not the most efficient scorer on the offensive end and is not as good of a shooter as Roach but he is a very capable playmaker. He can run a pick-and-roll, attack the basket, and find his teammates for good looks. He is undersized but he plays bigger than his 6'0 frame suggests thanks to his elite athleticism. He is physical, and intense, and forces a ton of turnovers through his pressure.
His quickness and athleticism can provide a different element for the Blue Devils. His energetic and dynamic play style, combined with his veteran presence, could make him an intriguing addition to the Duke backcourt.
Hunter has been regularly mentioned as a potential draft pick in both the 2023 and 2024 NBA Drafts. This never came to fruition, so he is likely looking for an opportunity to showcase his ability to boost his draft stock for next year. Potentially starting for one of the best teams in the country next season could certainly help him accomplish that goal.
