Nikola Topic, PG

Point guard Nikola Topic out of Serbia is another prospect with an intriguing skill set and a high upside. At 6'6 and 200 lbs, Topic has the size to be a modern NBA playmaker.

Topic is the latest sensation out of Serbia and has drawn comparisons to the current Hornets guard Vasilije Micic. In fact, Micic and Topic are the products of the same club in Serbia, KK Mega Basket. Another player you may be familiar with out of Mega: three-time MVP Nikola Jokic.

What Topic has that other prospects in this draft don't is the fact that he has been playing professional basketball for a long time already. He made his professional debut in Serbia in March 2022 and even appeared in Euroleague games with Crvena Zvezda this season. He has already played for the Serbian national team and he is only 18 years old.

Topic projects to be a pick-and-roll operator in the NBA. He doesn't have elite speed and athleticism but he is a pure point guard with the ability to control the game. He can score, pass, and consistently make great decisions.

If the Hornets were to draft him with the No. 6 overall pick, he could be insurance behind LaMelo Ball after a few seasons of backing him up. Charlotte could even experiment with playing them together since they both have the size to play both guard positions.
