2. Terrace Marshall

2024 Cap Hit: $1,823,109
2024 Dead Money: $381,725
2024 Cap Savings: $1,441,294

It's not a gamebreaker to pick up $1.4 million in cap savings, but releasing Terrace Marshall is as much about getting the roster spot as it is about the cap space.

The 2021 second-round pick is clearly not in the team's long-term plans at this point, so why have him take up a roster spot and couple million dollars that could either go to a more high-upside rookie or a more reliable veteran wideout?

Injuries shortened Marshall's 2023 season, but even when he was healthy his role had fallen off .he played just 55% of the offensive snaps when active, compared to 76% in 2022. He also saw just 9.7% of the team's targets in those games.

Losing DJ Chark and needing to provide Bryce Young with a supporting cast to help his development get back on track, the Panthers obviously don't want to end up thin at wide receiver. But if Terrace Marshall is the difference between feeling "thin" or not at wide receiver, then you have much bigger issues on your hand.

Fans like to imagine there's always a trade market for a former high draft pick, but the Panthers probably won't find anyone willing to give up even a late-round pick for Marshall, so it's time to just cut their losses and move on now.
