3 Free Agents the Panthers Should Still Sign Before the NFL Draft

Another NFL veteran who was released by his team this offseason is offensive lineman Brian Allen. After being drafted by the Rams in 2018, Allen started in 32 games in Los Angeles. He was the starting center for the Super Bowl-winning Rams team in 2021.
Allen lost his starting role to teammate Coleman Shelton prior to the 2023 season. As a result, he only played in five games and took 34 snaps last year. But, the 28-year-old might still be a solid addition for the Panthers ahead of the draft.
The Panthers completely revamped their offensive line this offseason as general manager Dan Morgan understandably made it a priority. Bryce Young needs better protection and clearer throwing lanes. So, they spent big on Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis, while shifting guard Austin Corbett to center.
Currently, Corbett projects to be the starting center for the 2024 campaign. Not only was the six-year veteran bad last season, but he also hasn't played center in his NFL career. It is a big risk to start a season with such a big question mark at center.
Adding a veteran center like Brian Allen will not take your offense to great heights but he will provide a nice backup plan. If the Corbett experiment doesn't work, putting Allen there will help stabilize things.
