2024-25 NFC South Opening Odds Indicate Panthers' Rebuild is Progressing
Carolina still has an uphill climb to fight for a division title.

Opening odds for NFL division winners have officially been released for the 2024-25 season and while the Panthers should be much improved from their two-win season a year ago, they're still just getting started with the rebuild and have a ways to go.
Carolina, who hasn't had a winning season since 2017, has the worst odds to win the NFC South at +1000. There's precedent for a wild run to the crown, as the Atlanta Falcons won at +1000 odds back in 2016, though it's likely the Panthers' real path to contention comes in 2025-26 and beyond.
However, the Panthers could take a big step forward this year, especially if the team nails its two top-40 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
2024-25 NFC South Opening Odds Show Panthers Are Big Underdogs
The Falcons are the betting favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook with -110 odds, meaning you'd need to bet $11 to profit $10. Tampa Bay is second at +300, New Orleans is +340 and then Carolina is +1000.
A $10 bet on the Panthers would profit a whopping $100 if they win the division, though the Falcons are rightful favorites after adding QB Kirk Cousins to complete an offense loaded with playmakers. The Buccaneers have three straight NFC South titles after the Saints won four straight, and Carolina hasn't won the division since the Super Bowl run in 2015.
It should be a competitive division once again and the Panthers could play spoiler. With a new coaching regime and a number of talented players added to the roster this offseason, Carolina is building a foundation under new head coach Dave Canales.
Of course, Canales was the Bucs' offensive coordinator in 2023 and helped lead the organization to that third consecutive NFC South crown. He knows how to build an effective offense, and fingers crossed he brings that level of success to Carolina as well.
