Panthers Sign Unexpected Wide Receiver to Begin Super Bowl Week
By Jovan Alford
The 2024 season has been over for almost a month for the Carolina Panthers. However, that hasn’t stopped the team from making various roster moves and changes to the coaching staff.
After the regular season ended, the Panthers signed 13 players to future/reserve contracts, which means these players will get a chance to compete for a 53-man roster or practice squad spot heading into the 2025 season.
Most players Carolina brought back on future deals were on their practice squad. However, the Panthers went outside the organization for their latest future/reserve deal.
Panthers Sign Brycen Tremayne on Tuesday
On Tuesday, the Panthers announced they signed former Washington Commanders wide receiver Brycen Tremayne to a reserve/future deal. Tremayne has spent the last two years on and off the Commanders’ practice squad after going undrafted following the 2023 NFL Draft.
The former Stanford wide receiver appeared in two games for the Commanders this season, where he had one reception for -2 yards. Tremayne had a solid four-year collegiate career at Stanford after not playing his freshman year in 2018.
The 6-foot-4 wide receiver recorded 74 receptions for 1,017 yards and 11 touchdowns in 35 games. In his final year at Stanford in 2022, Tremayne posted career-highs across the board with 38 receptions for 490 yards and three touchdowns.
The former Stanford standout will now try to make the Panthers’ 53-man roster spot over the next several months. Heading into next season, Carolina has only three wide receivers from 2024 on the team (Xavier Legette, Adam Thielen, and Jalen Coker).
That said, there will be opportunities for guys to win starting jobs in training camp and the preseason, which Coker did, who was an undrafted free agent. Coker didn't start the 2024 season on the 53-man roster, but was signed to the active roster in late September.
In addition to Tremayne, Carolina signed two other receivers (Dax Milne and T.J. Luther) to reserve/future deals.
