Panthers’ Season Reaches New Lows With Wild Disrespect From Sean Payton

The former Saints head coach was brutally honest about the Panthers' offense in their Week 8 loss.

The Carolina Panthers suffered their fifth-straight loss on Sunday against the Denver Broncos. The Panthers scored the game's first points as QB Bryce Young hit rookie wide receiver Xavier Legette for a six-yard touchdown.

However, the Panthers were outscored 28-7 by the Broncos the rest of the way as Denver’s offense shredded Carolina’s defense. The Panthers gave up 400 total yards of offense to the Broncos. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix torched Carolina’s secondary for one of his best outings this season with 284 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Young and the offense couldn’t do much against Denver’s defense as they didn’t score their last touchdown until 18 seconds left in the game. Overall, they finished the game with 284 yards of total offense, but that still isn’t good enough.

After the game, Broncos head coach Sean Payton, who is very familiar with the Panthers, going back to his days with the New Orleans Saints, threw a ton of shade toward Carolina’s offense.

“I said this, it’s not a good offense we played. It’s just the truth, Payton said when asked about the Broncos’ defensive performance (h/t Joe Pearson of The Athletic). “So we expected that, and we’re going to see a lot better teams.”

The former Saints head coach hit the Panthers with a quick jab and knockout punch, which isn’t what you want to hear after your team dropped their fifth consecutive game.

That said, he isn’t wrong. The Panthers’ offense was supposed to be better with Dave Canales but hasn’t taken that next step. If anything, this year’s offense looks almost similar to last year’s team.

During their five-game losing streak, the Panthers are averaging 15 points per game, which won’t win many games in the NFL. Carolina will try to put forth a better effort next week against Payton’s old team, which crushed the Panthers 47-10 in Week 1.
