The Carolina Panthers haven’t made many roster changes since the 2024 regular season ended earlier last month, outside of reserve/future deal signings.

However, the Panthers were able to retain one of their key starters before the new league year kicks off next month. On Friday, Paul Sheehy of ProSports Agency announced that veteran long snapper J.J. Jansen has re-signed with Carolina.

On Thursday, Joe Person of The Athletic reported that Jansen was expected to re-sign with the Panthers for his 17th season.

The 39-year-old special teams ace is the longest-tenured Panthers player, as he’s seen multiple head coaches and quarterbacks in the Queen City. Jansen had only been named to one Pro Bowl in his illustrious career, which was in 2013.

Despite being named to the Pro Bowl once, Jansen has been one of the most beloved players in franchise history and has done his job for countless years. The veteran long-snapper began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers.

However, Jansen didn’t last long with the Packers. They cut him at the end of the preseason and then placed him on injured reserve. In April 2009, Green Bay traded Jansen to Carolina for a conditional seventh-round pick.

That trade worked out for the Panthers as Jansen has been a constant starter on special teams.

Jansen was rewarded for his play, signing a four-year, $3.6 million contract extension with the Panthers in 2012. He then got a five-year contract extension worth $5.5 million in 2016.

The veteran long snapper took to social media after it was announced that he was re-signing with the Panthers. Jansen said, “Excited to be back for 2025! We’ve got a great group and only going to get better over the next few months.”

Carolina fans hope the re-signing of Jansen is a sign of good things to come, as this is a huge offseason for the franchise.
