When the Carolina Panthers benched Bryce Young in favor of Andy Dalton after Week 2, the initial results were nothing but positive. The offense clicked against the Las Vegas Raiders, for the first time, as the team put up a season-high 36 points. Since then, however, it has been more of the same as what has been plaguing the Panthers for the past few years.

The Panthers had four straight miserable performances since Week 3 and currently sit at the bottom of the NFC South with the 28th-ranked offense and worst defense in the NFL.

It was obvious that changes needed to be made. However, before head coach Dave Canales could make them; his hand was forced.

Dalton was involved in a minor car collision with his family on Tuesday. Fortunately, everyone is OK per Canales, but the veteran QB suffered a thumb sprain.

As a result, Canales announced that Young will get the start in Week 8 against the Denver Broncos.

NFL News: Bryce Young Will Start for Panthers in Week 8

This could be a blessing in disguise for Canales and Young. The quarterback decision would have been a major talking point for the rest of the season.

On one hand, Dalton is the better quarterback who gives the Panthers a better chance to win right now. On the other hand, Carolina is already terrible, so what is the point of playing a 36-year-old QB with no future with the franchise when you have the No. 1-overall pick from a year ago?

The fact that Young will be stepping into the QB1 role without as much pressure as he faced to begin the season could do wonders for him.

Unfortunately, however, he will be facing one of the best defenses in the league in Denver. The Broncos currently rank third in the NFL in both points and yards allowed, making this a particularly tough matchup for the struggling Panthers offense.
