Panthers Let Bryce Young Down Again With Latest Comments After 2nd Straight Win
By Jovan Alford
The Carolina Panthers picked up their second-straight win on Sunday, defeating the New York Giants 20-17 in overtime in Munich, Germany.
Second-year quarterback Bryce Young had another solid game, completing 15-of-25 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown. He also had 30 rushing yards and was only sacked once. It wasn’t an earth-shattering performance from the No. 1 overall pick, but it was good enough to lead the Panthers to a win.
The young quarterback has looked supremely better since returning to the starting lineup in Week 8 after he was benched earlier this season. Based on his recent performances, it seems like Young has locked up the starting QB job for the rest of the season.
However, head coach Dave Canales isn’t ready to make that proclamation yet. After the win on Sunday, the first-year head coach told reporters that he won’t name a starting quarterback after the bye, but liked what Young did, per Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer.
With the Panthers having a bye in Week 11, the Panthers don’t have to come out and name a starting quarterback. However, based on how he’s played lately, there’s no reason why Young shouldn’t be the starter going forward.
Young is moving the chains, getting the ball to his playmakers, and not making crucial mistakes. There’s no upside in starting Andy Dalton, a career backup. Carolina needs to know if Young is the guy going forward, or if they need to make a move in the offseason (NFL draft).
Over the last few weeks, Young has shown he’s the guy going forward. Carolina must stop playing this gamesmanship game and make it known that he’s the starter. After the bye, the Panthers will play the Kansas City Chiefs.
