The Carolina Panthers had a scary situation involving rookie tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders. The young pass-catcher was carted off the field in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sanders landed on his head after making a 10-yard reception. The former University of Texas star had reportedly injured his neck. Before exiting the game, the 21-year-old Sanders led the team with 43 receiving yards.

After the three-point loss on Sunday, head coach Dave Canales provided a huge update on Sanders.

Canales told reporters that Sanders was discharged from the hospital and would be returning to the facility, per Darin Gantt of Panthers.com.

As you can imagine, the coaching staff, his teammates, and the Panthers fans took a huge sigh of relief after hearing this amazing news.

Sanders is part of Carolina’s offensive young core, which features Bryce Young, Xavier Legette, Chuba Hubbard, and Jonathon Brooks. This season, the 6-foot-4 pass catcher has recorded 29 receptions (35 targets) for 302 yards and a touchdown.

On Monday, Canales provided another update on Sanders’ status, saying that the young tight end avoided a serious injury, per Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer. Canales re-confirmed that it’s a neck injury and they are working through the evaluation of the injury.

With all that being said, if Sanders cannot play on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Panthers will have to turn to Tommy Tremble, who had one catch (two targets) for five yards.
