Former Panther Frustrating Coaches After Move to New Team
The Carolina Panthers are 3-9 on the season after they sustained two close losses in back-to-back weeks. The Panthers have been improving over the past couple of weeks, including second-year QB Bryce Young.
That is the biggest positive development for this organization, even though they made some questionable choices. Back in October, the Panthers traded WR Diontae Johnson to the Baltimore Ravens for a 2025 fifth-round pick. At the time, it appeared that the Panthers got fleeced but as time has gone by, it looks like they did the right thing to move on from Johnson.
Ex-Panther Diontae Johnson Hasn’t Done Anything With Baltimore Ravens
Johnson has played in just 39 total snaps since getting traded to the Ravens, including zero snaps in Week 13 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Ravens head coach Jim Harbaugh spoke about that on Monday but gave an answer that hinted some things are happening behind the scenes.
"At this time, I'm going to have to wait. There are moving parts we're going to have to figure out and explore."
- Jim Harbaugh
Johnson has been with the Ravens for over five weeks now but has yet to play more than 17 snaps in any game. When he was acquired, it was under the assumption that he would have a significant role in the offense but that hasn't happened.
It's not like the Ravens have a long list of elite pass-catchers. Outside of Zay Flowers, Johnson is the most talented WR in that building, but for some reason, he isn't being incorporated into the game plan.
During the 2024 season with the Panthers, Johnson played in at least 66% of the snaps in every game. It's been a stark difference with the Ravens, which is interesting to see. For the Panthers' sake, it looks like they were the winners of this deal. Which isn't something you'd expect a couple of weeks ago.
