After weeks of rumors and speculation, the Carolina Panthers finally traded veteran wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week.

The decision to trade Johnson was a no-brainer for the Panthers as they aren’t competing for much and likely weren’t going to re-sign him in the offseason. That said, the veteran wideout is looking to build off what he did in Carolina and help the Ravens make a deep playoff run.

Johnson participated in his first practice with the Ravens on Wednesday and spoke with media for the first time. The former Panthers wideout expressed excitement about this new opportunity.

“Once I found out where I was going, I was excited," Johnson said (h/t Ravens team website). "Sigh of relief. I'm ready to work."

The veteran wide receiver clearly wasn’t happy in Carolina, which was evident after the team’s Week 7 loss to the Washington Commanders.

Johnson was visibly frustrated and said to the media, "I mean . . . I mean . . . frustrated, but I can’t play every position on the field, and make every play" (h/t Anthony Rizzuti of Panthers Wire). "So everybody gotta do their job, when it comes down to it. But yeah, it’s tough. But I just tell myself to keep going, regardless."

The Panthers took a chance on the veteran receiver this offseason, acquiring in a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers. On paper, it was a great move as he was to help take this Carolina offense to another level.

However, as we saw through the first month of the regular season, the Panthers are still a year away from competing. Carolina fans will watch from afar to see how Johnson performs and if he can capture a nice-sized deal in free agency this offseason.
