Dave Canales Provides Huge Clue to Panthers' Bryce Young Plans For Week 10
By Jovan Alford
The Carolina Panthers are coming off an exciting win on Sunday, defeating the New Orleans Saints 23-22.
With the win, the Panthers snapped their five-game losing streak as second-year quarterback Bryce Young made his second consecutive start. Some fans wondered if Young would start in Week 9 after Andy Dalton returned to practice from his sprained right thumb.
Panthers head coach Dave Canales stuck with his young QB, who had a solid performance against a Saints’ defense he struggled against in Week 1. The 23-year-old Young completed 16-of-26 passes for 171 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
Since returning to the starting lineup, Young has three touchdowns and three interceptions, which isn’t ideal. However, it's progress from where he left off earlier this season.
On Monday, Canales spoke about the team’s plans at QB for the Panthers’ Week 10 matchup against the New York Giants.
According to Joe Person of The Athletic, Canales still hasn’t made a decision and wants to make sure everyone is on the same page. The first-year head coach also said he’ll decide in the next couple of days.
Canales emphasized that gamesmanship is part of waiting to announce the decision on who will start against the Giants.
Based on his comments, it’s more than likely we will see Young back under center. The former No. 1 overall pick hasn’t looked like a superstar, but he’s not making many bad plays and has control of the offense.
The former Alabama star potentially has a huge test ahead of him against the Giants' defense, which leads the NFL in sacks (35). Therefore, it will be imperative for Young to get rid of the ball quickly and for Carolina to commit to the run next Sunday in Germany.
