The Carolina Panthers and former quarterback Cam Newton made headlines earlier this week as NFL free agency continues. Despite recent issues existing between the unofficially retired QB and the franchise, The Athletic's Joe Person reported on Thursday that the Panthers have left the door open for a reunion with Newton.

Newton is, arguably, the greatest Panthers of all time and fans want nothing more than to properly celebrate the former first-overall pick and vice versa. Having said that, it takes two to tango, meaning a reunion is only possible if the eccentric signal-caller is open to one.

Fortunately, it looks like Newton is open to another dance with his old partner.

Cam Newton Wants 2015 Panthers Team Honored Amid Drama With Ex-Teammates

During Thursday's episode of his "4th&1" podcast, Newton spoke about the upcoming 10th anniversary of the 2015 Panthers team that went on an unforgettable Super Bowl run. While talking about what that season meant to him, the former NFL MVP made it clear that he's also open to reuniting with the organization.

"There's no denying that there was something special in Carolina that year," Newton admitted. "Do you celebrate it? Absolutely. Do you take the time to highlight the personnel that was affiliated from the executive team, general managers, head coaches, and players? Absolutely."

From starting the year with a 14-0 record to reaching the second Super Bowl in franchise history, the 2015 Panthers deserve to be celebrated. The fact that Newton also agrees to that fact and is seemingly open to participating in any potential festivities is the type of news fans have been waiting to hear.

Newton also acknowledged that some football watchers might question why a Super Bowl runner-up should be celebrated. Even though other fanbases might be less willing to celebrate a similar performance, the importance of the 2015 season to Panthers fans is a big reason why the former QB is all in on the idea.

"Not a lot of teams to have been in that position in the first place. The impact that came from it and what came from it was so much," Newton said, mentioning his famed Superman celebration as one example. "The authentic nuance that the Carolina Panthers 2015 season represented for the masses is something that will never be forgotten."

Hopefully, Newton's latest remarks are the beginning of the end for any potential beef he has with the Panthers. Even though the former three-time Pro Bowl signal-caller has openly complained about how the franchise has recently treated him, Person's report revealed that Carolina's multiple attempts to contact Newton through various avenues have gone unanswered.

Even if some animosity between the franchise and the player remains, the two sides put any issues on the back burner if they want to properly celebrate the 2015 team. It's one of the rare bright spots in recent Panthers history, and the last thing the fanbase needs is to be unable to properly celebrate the memorable season because of petty differences.
