A new rumor emerged suggesting legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick could soon become the leader of the newly vacant leadership position atop the North Carolina Tar Heels football program.

After firing Mack Brown, UNC has a big need for a leader who can transform the program. Belichick reportedly interviewed for the Tar Heels' vacant job. There's no chance he ultimately becomes the leader of the Tar Heels, yet Belichick is still a highly coveted target.

This is a highly unlikely marriage, though it's still one that should create excitement among the UNC fans.

Bill Belichick Interviews for Tar Heels Head Coaching Job

It'd be quite a surprise if Belichick decided to join Chapel Hill for a complete rebuild. Literally no one anticipated this interview. Apparently, it still happened.

"He blew them away in an interview," a source told Inside Carolina. Of course he did, but the same question remains: did UNC blow Bill away?

Probably not. Belichick is positioning himself to secure an elite NFL job with little-to-no interest in coaching at the college ranks. Why would he? There's nothing for him at that level. He's trying to prove Tom Brady wasn't the only reason he won so many Super Bowls, so what does a college title prove?

Nothing. Bill knows that. UNC knows that. Everyone knows that. This interview was a mere formality to conjure up excitement for articles like this one. There is a 0% chance that Belichick coaches for the Tar Heels, let alone any college program.

We're safe to ignore this report just like any other similar to it. Belichick is coaching an NFL team or retiring - there are no other options.
