5. Nick Scott, S

Safety Nick Scott is another member of the secondary who could seek a job elsewhere after an underwhelming season. Scott came over to Carolina in March on a one-year, $1.2 million deal but things didn't pan out.

Scott injured his hamstring and was put on IR, forcing him to miss multiple weeks. Even before he went down, the Penn State product had struggled immensely. This season, Scott has 30 total tackles and two pass deflections. He's also secured zero interceptions for the Panthers.

Per PFF, Scott had a 52.6 overall grade (134th out of 166 eligible safeties), 48.1 run-defense grade (152nd out of 166 eligible safeties), and 56.7 coverage grade (112th out of 166 eligible safeties) in 2024. To make matters worse, Scott has a 123.5 passer rating allowed when in coverage.

The Panthers also have veteran safety Xavier Woods slated to hit the open market but he's been a consistent player for them. He leads the team in total tackles (114) and interceptions (3) with five pass breakups. Over the past three seasons with the Panthers, the 29-year-old has given the team a stable floor in the secondary. He will likely be the priority to re-sign in the safety room. Meaning that Scott is expendable.

The 29-year-old had a disappointing season for the Panthers and there isn't a reason to bring him back. The safety room needs an overhaul, and Scott's bad play adds to the need for that.
